Chapter One

Our Story

Eduardo and Pilar on the veranda of an ancestral house

A letter, of sorts.

Our families had known each other for two generations, but the two of us only really met at a grandparent's 80th birthday in Taal — seated at the same table, surrounded by relatives quietly convinced we'd be perfect together.

We spent years insisting otherwise, mostly out of stubbornness.

Then one quiet afternoon on the old house's veranda, over merienda and unfinished crossword puzzles, we realized everyone had been right all along. Some things are simply meant to take their time.
